Good. The secrecy of this one had me a bit worried. And, weren't we allowed to go into closed session anyway?

This one was the worst memorials I have ever seen. Last year our DBA voted to give an outgoing DS a severance package. I asked for the minutes of the meeting and was told that they were not public. This "ruling" had come down from Dr. 58%. I guess he felt that only 32 degree DBAers had the right to know “the secret knowledge” of what the church was doing with the USF money they were receiving. Thank God the General Conference was able to keep the Generals in check on this one.

I agree SMCVEY--this is the sort of memorial thought up by insiders without even sensible thought. Craig Dunn (in moving its adoption on the floor of the conference in order to speak AGAINST it and keep the memorial from going to GBA who might have passed it (after all they recommended it!). His best line was to remind us all that even General Conference would be considered an executive session excluding all visitors if the memorial passed... huh?

Of course any board (LBA, DBA, GBA) can by a simple vote go into executive session... but this silly memorial would have made all sessions executive sessions automatically excluding anyone not specifically invited... They must have dreamed this one up late at night while smoking tea leaves!

No matter--the General Conference practically shouted it down prooving that stupidity is not just found among the grass roots delegates but can sometimes be found at higher levels. ;-)

I'll also admit that it was a little below the belt. What I sincerely hope is that Dr. Pence does believe that “The will of the church is the will of God.” Because if he does, he will dramatically change from a hierarchical model of leadership to a style that is far more inclusive and open, one that does not use rulings from the chair to thwart the will of the people. The "church" has clearly spoken on that at this General Conference.
